Elizeth Acuna, this week’s Senior in the Spotlight, may be speaking for all seniors when she says what she is not going to miss about high school. “I won’t miss coming in early every morning.” She is also not going to miss studying and taking tests, but that won’t last long. She’ll be heading to Western Nevada College in the fall to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice. “I have been dreaming of working in law enforcement since I was a child,” she said.

Carson City School District hosted Band-O-Rama, an admission-free music event, Thursday, March 23 at Carson High School. The concert celebrated instrumental and music education throughout the district and featured bands from all age levels, including elementary, middle and high school.

Carson High Students, Alumnus Recognized as ‘Good Samaritans’

Carson High School students Gabriel Brackin, 17-year-old senior, Wyatt Johnson,16-year-old freshman, Dameon Lister, 15-year-old freshman, and Daniel Novoa, 18-year-old senior were recently recognized with “Outstanding Citizen Awards” for the aide and unsolicited assistance they provided to a stranded community member on a snowy day last month. Additional aid came from Carson High alumni John Campbell, 19, who was traveling with the high school students.

Carson City School District is pleased to announce Carson High School Senior Tierney Frost, 17, has earned a contract with the Three Ravens Publishing Company for her graphic design work in creating a winning book cover design for “The Raven and the Crow: Shores of Blood,” the third book in a six-book epic fantasy novel series.

CMS, EVMS Middle School Wrestling Teams Qualify for Tah Neva Championship

Grapplers from both Carson Middle School (CMS) and Eagle Valley Middle School (EVMS) qualified for the league’s Tah Neva Championship Tournament set for March 25 at Pershing County High School in Lovelock, Nev. Coaches said the wrestlers became eligible during the qualifier tournament in Fallon, Nev. last Saturday.

NOTICE OF NONDISCRIMINATION UNDER TITLE IX

Carson City School District (“the school district”) does not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, disability, gender, national origin, ancestry, genetic information, gender identify or expression or political affiliation in admission or access to, treatment, or participation in its programs and activities.  The District also provides equal access to the Boy Scouts of American and other designated youth groups.  All programs, classes, and opportunities are available to all students.

Title IX prohibits, among others, sex-based discrimination, including sexual harassment, in violation of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.  Title IX provides that no person shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any school district education program or activity.  The school district is required by Title IX not to discriminate in such a manner.  Title IX applies to any school district education program or activity, whether such program or activity occurs on-campus or off-campus.  The requirement not to discriminate in the school district’s program or activity extends to employment.

Inquiries about the application of Title IX to the school district may be referred to the school district’s Title IX Coordinator, or to the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education, 400 Maryland Ave., S.W., Washington, D.C.  20202, or both.

Complaints of sex discrimination and formal complaints of sexual harassment may be filed with the school district’s Title IX Coordinator. 

Carson City School District has established grievance procedures that further describe how to report or file a complaint of sex discrimination and how the school district will respond in Board Policy 104 and Administrative Regulation 401.  Carson City School District has established a grievance process that further describes how to report or file a formal complaint of sexual harassment and how the school district will respond in Board Policy and Administrative Regulations 301 and 401.
