Pinewood Derby Gives CHS Engineering Students Hands-on Experience

Carson High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) students received hands-on experience this week when they created and raced their own pinewood derby cars. The experience was more sophisticated than a typical Cub Scout contest because the introduction to engineering design students had to first create the car design using the computer-aided design (CAD) software, Autodesk. They then used power tools to build their car from a block of wood to fit the specifications of their CAD results.   READ MORE...

Little girls love to be treated like a princess for a night, and Carson High School wants to make that happen for as many of them as possible in the spring. On April 22, Carson High School will open its doors to any dad-daughter duos or those who might be filling in as such for its annual Father-Daughter Ball, a three-hour community event wide open to all ages. Former educator, math teacher, U.S. Army Veteran and world traveler Harry Chalekian, 91, celebrated his birthday this year with some special individuals who were only a tenth of his age. Seeliger Elementary School fifth-grade teacher Susan Lowther coordinated a special present for Mr. Chalekian. The Carson City School District is pleased to announce Scholastic Art and Writing Contest winners from Carson High School. Claire Williams, 17-year-old junior in Karen McCraw’s Art class, received a Gold Key award and an American Visions nomination for her piece, The Rise of Awareness. Aubrey Glazner, 17-year-old senior in Kara Ferrin’s Photography class, received a Gold Key award and an American Visions nomination for her piece, Black in a White World. Student Arrested for Bringing Gun to School

School district officials confirmed today that a Carson High School student was arrested for bringing a gun to school. No person was injured. The incident occurred in a.m. hours of Wednesday Feb. 23, 2022. School Resource Officers were immediately onsite and helped secure the situation. The school was never officially put on lockdown. The district is cooperating with local authorities, and an investigation is ongoing. Students and staff directly involved with the incident are being provided social and emotional support as needed.  READ MORE...

All 11th grade students (juniors) are required (in order to graduate) to take the ACT Tuesday, March 1. All 9th, 10th and 12th grade students do not attend school that day (March 1). Please note, students will not have access to their cell phones during the ACT. Also, CHS does not provide calculators, so students will need to bring their own (review Calculator Policy here). Every student has been notified of their testing room assignment and should arrive at the school by 7:30 a.m. If students have questions about testing room assignments, they should go to the main office for assistance.  READ MORE...

Consequently, the school district asks that all parents and families make arrangements to transport their regular education students to and from school until further notice. New Leadership Roles for Carson City School Board

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce new leadership roles for the School Board of Trustees. At their first meeting of the year Tuesday, Jan. 11, Richard Varner, District 4, was named the newest president of the Carson City School District Board of Trustees. He replaced former President and Immediate Past President Joe Cacioppo, District 7, as the school board’s leader. Trustees Laurel Crossman, District 2, and Lupe Ramirez, District 1, were also named vice president and clerk, respectively. Crossman replaced former Vice President Varner and Ramirez replaced former Clerk Crossman. Each of the three leaders will serve one-year terms on the Carson City School Board.  READ MORE...
