Richard Stokes, retiring superintendent of the Carson City School District, will pass the superintendent torch to Andrew Feuling this July 1, 2022. The school board of trustees voted unanimously, 7-0, to offer the contract for superintendent to the district’s current fiscal services director at the April 6 special session school board meeting.

“Mr. Feuling graciously accepted,” Richard Stokes said. “We will be working closely together during the next several months to ensure a smooth transition for the district.”

With the recent changes to the district office staff, the months of May and June will be used to fill vacancies and ensure the continuity of services, Stokes continued.

Traditionally, this time of year, the district is busy filling teaching and other school district positions as they prepare for the coming school year. Now they can move forward with a unified approach and work together to fill those necessary positions with input from both Stokes and Feuling.

“I think everyone in the school district and community is grateful to have the search for a new superintendent behind us,” Stokes said. “Mr. Feuling has been a tremendous asset to our school district as the fiscal director for the past 8 years. His role as director of fiscal services has been critical in ensuring quality education and programs for the students of Carson City. His involvement in legislative sessions through testimonies regarding state education funding levels and mechanisms not only advocated for improved funding for the education of children within our district, but also for students across the state. We are all looking forward to seeing him excel in his new capacities as superintendent.”

Feuling said it has been a blessing to collaborate with Mr. Stokes as he prepares to take the helm of the school district.

“Mr. Stokes was stalwart, trusted and beloved by members of the school district and community alike,” Feuling said. “I am glad we have time before he retires to transition duties and responsibilities to help make it a seamless exchange. But for now, we have a tremendous amount of work to do.”

Prior to his appointment as director of fiscal services, Feuling served as a school business solutions specialist for Robert W. Baird & Co., a fiscal entity helping school districts in Wisconsin find creative ways to maximize their revenues and control their expenses. He was the business manager for Salem School District where he was responsible for all financial services. He also taught Economics and History at East Troy High School for more than 8 years.

Feuling earned a master’s in school business management from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, a master’s in educational administration from Capella University, a bachelor’s in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and a bachelor’s in business administration from Drake University.
