Carson High School will host a Division 1 Signing Ceremony for two student athletes in the gym at 11 a.m. this Friday, January 25. Jill Beglin will be signing with St. Johns University for Golf and Abby Pradere will sign with the University of San Francisco for Track.

Beglin is a 4-time varsity letterman, 3-time MVP (most valuable player) and 2-time team captain. During her senior season (2018), she earned 1st Team All-conference, 1st Team All-region, 1st Team All-state, northern Nevada Regional 2nd place and 4th place for Nevada State High School 4-A golf. During her junior season (2017), she earned 1st Team All-conference, 1st Team All-region, Honorable Mention All-state, northern Nevada Regional 3rd place and 14th place for Nevada State High School 4-A golf

Additionally, Beglin is a straight A student with a 4.0 unweighted GPA and a 4.6 weighted GPA.  She has taken part in National Honor Society, Student Council and AP classes at the high school. During her four years in leadership she has held the student-elected positions of Class President, Student Body Historian and for her senior year she holds the position of Student Body VP. She was also Carson High School's 2018 Homecoming Queen.

Some local organizations for whom she has volunteered include: Advocates to End Domestic Violence, The Salvation Army, Corpus Christi Catholic Church, First United Methodist Church, Barracuda Championship, TGI Futures, Nevada State High School athletic events, 2018 Friendship Ball and Father-Daughter Dance chairwoman and many more.

In 2018 she we awarded a scholarship to attend the week-long Rotary Youth Leadership Awareness (RYLA) program in Northern California. She was recently awarded the Soroptimist International of Carson City's Girl of the Month Award for December.

Beglin started golf lessons around the age 8 through Carson City Parks and Recreation with PGA Class A professional, Terry Gingell. After Gingell left Carson City for a position at the Stanford University Golf Course, Jill began her training with the Trevino Golf Institute in Reno Nevada in 2013. She began competing in golf tournaments the summer following the 7th grade and didn't compete in her first 18-hole tournament until the summer prior to her freshman year at Carson High School. During her high school career, she trained under Head Coach, Wade Greenlee. Her strength and conditioning coach is Nikki Warren, owner of KAIAFit Carson City.

Pradere will be a 4-time varsity letterman (Track season begins again this spring). She also earned “Best Distance Runner” in 2016 and “Outstanding Athlete” from 2017-2018. She holds the record for the 800m and Mile for CHS in the freshmen, sophomore and varsity categories. In 2018 Pradere swept the distance events as the 4-A State Champion in both the 800m (setting her lifetime PR of 2:13.47) and the 1 mile (setter her lifetime PR of 5:03.39). She is also the back to back to back (2016, 2017 and 2018) northern Nevada Regional 4-A Champion in both the 800m and the 1 mile.

Additionally, Pradere has a 3.96 unweighted GPA and a 4.8 weighted GPA. She is enrolled in the Jump Start Program and is on track to graduate this June earning her high school diploma and associates of arts degrees simultaneously.

“Abby isn't just an extraordinary athlete; she is an extraordinary person,” CHS Head Track Coach Steven Nelms said. “She is someone who always has a great attitude going into any situation. She is a perfect example of a student-athlete. Phenomenal work ethic within the classroom and on the track. I am beyond excited to see what she can accomplish her senior year as well as her time at USF and beyond.”
