To help raise money to support Breast Cancer Awareness during the month of October, HOSA (Future Healthcare Professionals) at Carson High School (CHS) placed bins to collect spare change and dollars in various teachers’ rooms. The students were encouraged to donate to their favorite teacher they would like to see dressed in “All Pink.” CHS English Teacher Jason Macy and Chemistry Teacher Curtis Kortemeier were the winners and dressed up Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 26 and 27, respectively. Overall, $465 were raised for the good cause.

The generous donation will help Carson Tahoe Health (CTH)’s Cancer Resource Center directly support patients facing cancer by delivering things like groceries for patients and their families, many of whom suffer substantial loss of income following a cancer diagnosis. Contributions also help support patients with gas cards that enable travel to the hospital for treatment, assistance with rent and utilities bills and access to exceptional, expert, compassionate staff who provide guidance, care and resource coordination and critical emotional support.

HOSA Future Health Professionals is the premier organization for student leaders pursuing careers in the healthcare industry. HOSA’s two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. They seek to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill and leadership development of all health science technology education students; therefore, helping students to meet the needs of the health care community.
