Photographers and representatives from the news media are invited Wednesday, Oct. 13, to capture images and video of teachers, students, school board trustees and local dignitaries signing a massive steel beam for a ‘Topping Out’ ceremony beginning as early as 11 a.m. at Eagle Valley Middle School, 4151 East Fifth Street, Carson City, Nevada 89701. The beam is scheduled to be set in place by 12 noon.

Carson City School District administrators and trustees will be available for interviews prior to and after the ceremony.

The event comes amid classroom-space expansion construction at the school. The expansion will add 23,000 square feet to the campus with 10 classrooms, two STEM labs, office and workroom space, restrooms and storage areas and additional room where an existing SMART lab will be relocated. The project began Monday, June 14 with a planned completion date for July 2022. The anticipated budget was approximately $14 million. The district hired CORE Construction as the contractor.

Additionally, because the event will be held at an active construction site, all guests, including the news media, will need to wear hard hats and safety vests. If you do not bring these safety items, they will be provided to you as you enter the site. Also, please wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
