For the coming 2022-2023 school year, the Carson City School District is continuing all Pre-K, Kindergarten, new and returning student updates and full-time online education registrations. As a reminder, this year, there are new kindergarten age requirements, and all full-time online learning will be consolidated through Pioneer Academy 1-12.

The new age deadlines for incoming kindergarten students require them to be 5-years-old on or before the first day of school, Monday, Aug. 15. 2022. The Carson City School District is trying to help dispel parent and family confusion when they register their child or children for school or conduct annual updates in Infinite Campus. Knowing when students qualify to enter Pre-K or Kindergarten is a big change this year, and the district is fielding a number of phone calls.

Carson City School District utilizes Infinite Campus (IC) for their student data information system. Parents and families of new and current students should utilize online registration through IC to provide and update student information.

Through IC, the secure online enrollment system on the district’s website, parents are able to verify and update all student demographic, emergency and medical information for their child prior to the start of the new school year so they can participate in field trips and other school-related activities as well as have media releases for photographs or videos of them participating in various school functions.

Children who will be 5-years-old on or before the first day of school, Monday, August 15, 2022, will be eligible for Kindergarten for the coming 2022-2023 school year. Some exceptions for the 2022-2023 school year may apply to students who have completed a Pre-K program. Full-day Kindergarten classes are offered at all elementary schools in Carson City. Contact your neighborhood school for more information:

Parents are invited to visit their child’s prospective school in person between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to provide the following required documents to register.

  • Birth certificate.
  • Immunization records (including Hepatitis A & B, DTAP, MMR, IPV & Varicella). Please contact your physician’s office to ensure compliancy for school.
  • Proof of residency in Carson City (Utility bill, Mortgage or Rental papers, Voter Registration, etc.).

Children who will be 4-years-old on or before the first day of school, Monday, August 15, 2022, and whose family qualifies under the federal household income guidelines, may apply for the district’s Pre-Kindergarten program for the 2022-2023 school year. In addition to the above required documents, families registering for Pre-K will also need Proof of Income (including the last three pay stubs of each working parent in the household or their 2021 tax return). Parents should direct any Pre-K inquiries to the Pre-K Office, 775-283-2350.

Additionally, all full-time online education for elementary, middle and high school students can be completed at one consolidated site: Pioneer Academy 1-12. Pioneer Academy 1-12 is a consortium of three schools. Pioneer Online Elementary School serves grades one through five, Pioneer Online Middle School serves grades six through eight and Pioneer High School will continue to serve grades nine through twelve in both traditional in-seat and online options.

All families that wish to continue with (or enroll in) full-time online learning must complete an application for acceptance into Pioneer Academy 1-12 on their website. Pioneer Academy 1-12 has a limited number of spaces available for all three levels (elementary, middle, and high). As a result of this limited space, CCSD is asking all interested families to complete and submit applications in English or applications in Spanish as soon as possible to be considered. Applications will go onto a first-come, first-served waiting list.

The full-time online learning model offered through Pioneer Academy is a 5-days per week commitment. School days and hours will mirror students who are learning full-time, 5-days per week, in-seat, in-person. All testing and assessments for full-time online learners will be provided in-person at the Pioneer Academy 1-12 campus.

Once enrolled, Pioneer Academy 1-12 will be the student’s assigned school for the year. In order for students enrolled in the full-time online learning model to return to the district’s in-seat, in-person learning model, families will need to apply for a variance to their assigned/zoned brick and mortar school.

Due to the unique challenges of online learning, CCSD has determined students and families will be best served under one consolidated location with teachers and staff who can focus efforts on the needs of full-time online families. Since Pioneer Academy 1-12 serves all full-time online learners, parents will have a single point of contact regardless of their children’s current grade levels. In addition, the consolidated site provides a unified teaching staff for online learning, as well as a single administrative and office staff.
