A NOTE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT

Richard StokesAs we enter the final week of a much more normal feeling school year, I am excited to participate and attend all the traditional end-of-the-year events and activities. It almost feels like the COVID-19 Pandemic is but a mere memory now that precautionary measures have been lifted in our schools and throughout the country. Thank you to all who endured. Thanks to all our teachers and administrators who were tasked with essentially “building the airplane while we were flying it.” Thanks to all the parents and families who made last minute adjustments to their schedules to accommodate school schedules and transportation complexities and changes. Thanks to all the nurses and health professionals who spent so much time administering COVID tests and vaccinations. It has been a couple rough years to try and hold school, but we are all enjoying the reprieve and more normalcy.

We are incredibly blessed with teachers who are dedicated to their work and children. It truly is an art of love and compassion. Thank you all for your efforts in helping to shape the citizens of tomorrow. This noble work is no easy task and I can think of no finer group of professionals to accomplish the job than you.  As always, if you have questions or wish to discuss your child’s academic progress or school happenings, please don’t hesitate to contact a staff member with whom your child works or myself.

Sincerely,
Richard Stokes
Superintendent, Carson City School District

TALKING WITH CHILDREN ABOUT TRAGIC EVENTS

Holding HandsThe event which took place in Uvalde, Texas was heartbreaking and very hard to understand. Please take time to read through this helpful online tool in “Talking with Children About Tragic Events.” You may also share this same request with your children. The safety of our staff and students has always been a priority and is something we constantly reevaluate to maintain a safe learning environment at all our schools. We appreciate your understanding when we request visitors to check in at the main offices while on our school campuses and before visiting classrooms. We stress to students to act responsibly and to report information to an adult or use SafeVoice if they hear or view anything on social media that might be considered a threat or a cry for help.

READING WEEK WATER BALLOON CELEBRATION AT BORDEWICH BRAY

Water BalloonsStudents at Bordewich Bray Elementary School read a collective total of 52,447 minutes during Reading Week. Because they surpassed the goal of 40,000 minutes, they were able to celebrate with water balloons and squirt guns. Each student received a water balloon and they had a choice to throw it at P.E. Teacher Mr. DeJoseph, Vice Principal Mr. Tuttle or Principal Mrs. Richetta. The smiles on all of the students faces made getting wet well worth it! Mrs. Richetta even wore her swimsuit as part of the deal. The students chose the water balloon fight and swimsuits to go along with the Reading Week theme of "Catch the Wave and Read."
