Carson High School’s Career and Technical Education program is opening its new manufacturing lab facility in celebration of National Manufacturing Day for media tours on Friday, Oct. 6, at 8 a.m.

More than 600 freshmen will learn about careers in manufacturing, welding and engineering during a series of scheduled freshman tours through those CTE classrooms beginning Friday

“CTE and manufacturing specifically are top priorities in Gov. Sandoval’s education initiatives,” Michele Lewis, Carson High School CTE administrator, said. “We are teaching students to work on actual technical training equipment to learn the basics of electronics, mechanical principals and basic automation.”

WHEN: 8-9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6

WHERE: Carson High School, 1111 N. Saliman Road, Carson City, NV

WHO: CHS CTE students and teachers, CHS freshmen and Michele Lewis, CHS CTE administrator

MEDIA PARKING: Parking will be available for clearly marked news vehicles at the entrance to the high school off Saliman Road.

The CHS CTE manufacturing lab is outfitted with motors, basic electronics and mechanical features to give students hands-on experience with typical equipment found in manufacturing shops including gear drives, belt drives, couplings, chain drives, shafts and bearings as well as more complex equipment featuring hydraulics and pneumatics and manual and software driven programmable logic controllers, or PLCs.

The CTE program is part of Gov.
