Schools Find Ways to Connect with Students Amid Closures

Many teachers and individuals with the Carson City School District are finding innovative ways to connect with students and families during mandated school closures from the COVID-19 pandemic. From encouraging online videos from principals and staff to thoughtful messages pressed into the fences at school sites, educators are finding ways to instill some hope, security and stability in a very fluid and volatile environment.

Virtual Nod for Prom and Prom Candidates

Carson High School (CHS) is helping seniors participate in what they are calling a virtual nod for prom and prom candidates this weekend. Saturday, April 4, was the previously scheduled evening designated for what many considered a rite-of-passage for high school seniors and a quintessential American tradition that, along with graduation, often symbolizes the end of one chapter in life and the beginning of a new one. With the COVID-19 pandemic, those plans among many others have been canceled.

In response to Nevada Gov. Sisolak’s announcement this morning to extend the “Stay at Home” directive through April 30, the Carson City School District will continue with Remote Learning for teachers and students through the remainder of the month.

06-15-17 Pedaling Books During Summer School
The Carson City Library’s Pedal Library will be busy delivering books to students attending summer school. Now through the end of June, the teardrop trailer pulled behind a bike will provide up to 60 pounds of books at each elementary school within the Carson City School District. The mobile library will be offering mobile wifi and charging station soon.
