This week’s senior in the spotlight is Laura Bennett. Laura is an exceptional young woman; she is a strong student with clear ambitions. Laura’s academics really speak for themselves. She has always been a hard-worker, earning high marks in her increasingly difficult classes. She is on track to earning her Advance Placement (AP) Capstone Diploma as well as completing the Project Lead the Way architecture and civil engineering program. She currently has a 5.2 weighted GPA and is ranked 2nd in a class of almost 500.

Laura’s interest in architecture led her to a summer internship with Tectonics Design Group where she was able to not only help with design, but also meet with clients of the firm. She was also awarded High School Merit Honoree from the Sierra Nevada Section of the Society of Women Engineers.

Laura has always been a doer. She is involved in numerous activities, including theater, sports and clubs. Not a stranger to the spotlight, Laura grew up on the stage. She has been part of the youth theater group Wild Horse Productions for several years. Over the years, she participated as an actor in 31 productions. She has also worked behind the scenes, helping with choreography, set building and tech. As part of the Wild Horse competition team, she was an actor, choreographer and dance captain, bringing home numerous awards from the Junior Theater Festival. Laura was recognized for her excellent commitment to theater with the Spirit of Wild Horse award. If you would like to see her on stage, Laura is performing as Demeter in the Wild Horse production of Cats at the Brewery Arts Center from December 1-10.

Along with her dedication to theater, Laura is also an active member at Carson High School. Laura is a four-year varsity tennis player and an active member of the Future Business Leaders of America. She went to state twice for FBLA and has placed in both public speaking and impromptu at the state level.

Laura plans to earn her degree in architecture. She has applied to multiple universities and has already been accepted into a few. She looks forward to making her decision this spring. Carson High School would like to wish Laura luck in Cats as well as in her future endeavors.
