Empire Elementary Teacher Named Finalist for National Teaching Award

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce Empire Elementary School’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Teacher Adrienne Wiggins has been selected as a Nevada finalist for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), the nation’s highest honors for teachers of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and computer science.

Carson City School District hosted a ceremony this morning with local dignitaries from the Nevada Department of Education and officers from local military bases. Carson High School was honored with a Nevada Purple Star School designation for supporting military-connected students and their families.

Laura Ricks, TOSA/Instructional Coach at Empire Elementary School, was honored as the Carson City School District’s Educator of the Year, at the Tuesday, April 23, School Board Meeting and annual event. Additionally, Sandra Guzzetta, special education paraprofessional at Bordewich Bray Elementary School, was recognized as the Education Support Professional (ESP) Employee of the Year, and Chelise Crookshanks, principal at Mark Twain Elementary School, was recognized as the district’s Administrator of the Year.

Carson High Announces 2024 Prom King and Queen

This evening, Carson High School named Mikey Hoffer and Selma Works as the 2024 Prom King and Queen. A short coronation ceremony was held during the Prom Dance. Additionally, Rodrigo Diaz and Alissa Powers were crowned Carson High School’s Friendship Ball King and Queen during that dance Thursday evening in the Morse Burley Gym.

Senior Spotlight: Carson High’s Drea Cabral

Drea Cabral is quiet, academic, and driven; however, after just one conversation with her, one realizes she is so much more than that. Drea is a musician who finds escape and freedom in her music. She is competitive, earning her way to perform in Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center, and she is committed, practicing long hours even with rigorous AP courses. This fall, she will be taking her academics and her music to the next level when she attends Yale University!

06-15-17 Pedaling Books During Summer School
The Carson City Library’s Pedal Library will be busy delivering books to students attending summer school. Now through the end of June, the teardrop trailer pulled behind a bike will provide up to 60 pounds of books at each elementary school within the Carson City School District. The mobile library will be offering mobile wifi and charging station soon.
