$5,300 Donated to Support Comprehensive Life Skills, Special Education

Carson City, Nev. (Feb. 27, 2024) — The Ormsby Association of Carson City (OACC), on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation (CCSF), was pleased to donate $5,304.30 to Mr. Lance Hendee, Comprehensive Life Skills (CLS) and Special Education teacher at Carson High School, for the school’s Alternate Standards Program.

OACC was started in Carson City by parents who realized that some children, including disabled children, did not have the services and transportation they needed to attend school. The organization believes everyone deserves a chance to succeed and live in a safe environment and that food and shelter are basic human needs.

CCSF was created to increase student achievement through philanthropic investment and involvement. Established by the Carson City School District’s Board of Trustees, the foundation promotes education programs that traditional funding sources may not be able to reach. CCSF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting community involvement and investment in the public schools of Carson City.

Background

In 2015 a group of individuals from the community came together to form a 501(c)3 foundation to support the Carson City School District’s goal of increasing student achievement through community philanthropic investment and involvement.  Serving at the pleasure of the superintendent and the school board, The Carson City Schools Foundation leadership works to be a vehicle for community investment in education that traditional funding sources might not be able to reach.

As a result of the community’s generosity, from 2016 through 2022 the foundation has donated $146,000 for classroom projects, student aid, department projects, school projects, new teacher support, and the Jump Start Program. As of the Fall 2023 grant period, the foundation has donated $46,764 through the following programs (Click here for a full list of awardees)

  • Classroom Mini Grants – $1,300 (6 grants)
  • School-wide Grants – $10,000 (5 grants)
  • Jump Start College-readiness Program – $32,223.14

We hope you will take the time to view the video below to learn more about the Foundation and our work. We also encourage you to explore this website to learn more about what we have accomplished so far, how we achieve our goals, and how you can participate as a donor and supporter.

This project is one of the many results of the “Empower Carson City 2017″ Strategic Plan – a five-year strategic plan built by the community for creating extraordinary schools, and now renewed as “Empower Carson City 2022“.
