Principal's Highlights

Mark Twain, a Nevada 2006-2007 Title I Distinguished School, provides a research-based academic program for grades pre-K thru 5th.  Our goal is for each child, each day, to achieve and succeed.

  • Mark Twain is designated as High Achieving School under NCLB guidelines.
  • Mark Twain utilizes a daily comprehensive 90 minute school-wide SFA program and one-hour math curriculum.
  • ELLIS and LEXIA, computer assisted instructional programs, provide systematic language and reading skills interventions.
  • Our math coach provides ongoing professioanl development to staff,including best practices and enhanced curriculum.

 

 

Mark Twain Elementary will make AYP in all subject areas tested.


Objective(s):

 

Students will demonstrate knowledge of standards-based lesson objectives 90% of the time as determined by administrative walk-throughs.  Students will demonstrate 75% or more mastery of learning targets in English Language Arts and Math as determined by classroom assessments and MAP testing.

Each student will meet or exceed NWEA RIT point growth norms of the MAP assessment in reading and math.


Objective(s):

Students will demonstrate active engagement in lesson 90% of the time reflecting teachers' use of effective instructional strategies as measured by administrative walk throughs.  Students will demonstrate involvement in setting goals for their own learning determined by completion of MAP goal form.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • All staff is trained in the writing traits and certified trait scorers collect practice test data used to drive instruction.
  • MAP testing is administered three times yearly as a formative assessment used to plan instruction and remediation.
  • 150 students attend the Soaring Hawks after school program improving skills in reading, math and writing.
  • Our Family Resource Center offers parent workshops on topics such as SFA, student assessment, and family nutrition.
  • We continue to embrace diversity through on-site adult ESL classes and bi-monthly meetings of the Latino Parent Committee.
