Hybrid / Remote Options

August 21, 2020

Dear Families.

We have been receiving questions about the options for GATE students in a hybrid and remote learning environment.  The purpose of this letter is to clarify the options for families as we move forward.

In CCSD, we utilize the cluster model for GATE instruction for students.  This means that all GATE students are placed with a classroom teacher who is GATE endorsed and receive instruction throughout the entire school day with this GATE endorsed teacher.  At the elementary level, this means your child’s classroom teacher has received specialized instruction, 12 hours of graduate level course work, specifically geared for teaching gifted students.  At the middle school level, this means your child’s core teachers (English, Social Studies, Science, and Math) have all received this specialized instruction, otherwise known as a “GATE Endorsement”.

If you have opted for the “Hybrid” model for your child, he/she will be placed with a GATE endorsed teacher in our cluster model format for GATE services.  If you opted for the 100% Remote model for your child, your child will receive supplemental enrichment from a GATE endorsed teacher.  We do not have enough GATE endorsed teachers to cover all hybrid and remote classrooms for 150 minutes per week (2.5 hours), which is the recommendation in state guidelines.

We are working to ensure that both options, hybrid and remote, will challenge and support your child’s learning and social emotional needs.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Together in Education,
