Vocational Survey is a year-round elective choice for 6th Graders. It consists of 6 classes: Art, Computers, Health, Home & Careers, Technology, and Keyboarding. Each class has their own projects/assignments.
Art

Mrs. Romanowitz is the teacher for art. Students begin with designing an Art Portfolio to store the assignments required in class. Each class will begin with a 10 minute warm-up sketch. Students will learn the elements of design: line, shape, texture, space, value, and color and produce art using these elements. Mediums used will include pencil, crayon, marker, paint, and/or pastels. Some topics that will be explored are cartooning, scale drawing, and perspective.
Computers

Computers class is taught by Mrs. Randall. The students will learn to identify the parts of the computer, understand system and application software, launch a program, and shut down properly. They will be using Microsoft Office XP to complete several assignments. The word processing assignments will emphasize data input, formatting, the use of spell and grammar check and saving. There will also be Excel and Power Point assignments.
Health

Health Class is taught by Mrs. Schuette. Gateway Drug Education starts the unit. Tolerance, respect, self-esteem, conflict resolution, and peer pressure concepts are stressed. A unit on adolescence and reproduction finishes the rotation.
Home & Careers

Home & Careers is taught by Mrs. Wines. In this class, you learn about decision making, manners, food sanitation, kitchen safety, and measuring/cooking. You take notes and learn how to cook english muffin pizza and chocolate chip cookies.
Technology
To Top of Page

This class is instructed by Mrs. Stocke. Students design solutions to a variety of problems working with one or more partners. Cooperative efforts and problem solving are stresssed. Topics include flight, transportation, computer applications, tooling skills, and design process.
Keyboarding

This class is taught by Mrs. Daub. The students will learn the major functions of the computer. They will learn the alphabet and punctuation keys; with the correct finger placement being emphasized. The students will be working in Microsoft/Word Processing and Mavis Beacon Programs. Students will be required to have a folder for keyboarding. This is a tool to help them organize their work.
