HSP²

                    HSP² is a special program for students who are in need of extra assistance. If your                     student is credit deficient in Math and/or English, it is required that he/she                     successfully participate in the program. If your student does not successfully participate,                     he/she will not be eligible for summer school and will be retained. If your student is in danger                     of failing one or more classes for the first quarter of this school year, it is recommended that                     he/she attend this program. In addition, if your child needs help in Math, English, study skills,                     or homework, he/she is welcome to join the program. The High School Preparation Program                     (HSP²) will begin Monday, October 1st.





The following activities will be available:



                   1. Homework/Tutoring Assistance: Monday – Friday from 7:00 to 7:48 a.m. in room (to be announced) and Monday – Thursday                                  2:20-3:30 in room (to be announced). Students can attend this program as many times each week as necessary, but there is no
mandatory attendance requirement.

                       2. English/Language Arts: Monday – Thursday from 2:20 to 3:30 in Room (to be announced). Your student must attend this class
every day and will receive one half credit for 45 hours of successful participation in and completion of this course.

                      3. Math: Monday – Thursday from 2:20 to 3:30 in Room (to be announced). Your student must attend this class every day and will
receive one half credit for 45 hours of successful participation in and completion of this course.

                       4. Enrichment Programs: A variety of academic/athletic/artistic based enrichment activities will be available Monday through                                         Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Students must fully attend and successfully participate in either Math or English/Language
Arts class or homework/tutoring assistance in order to attend enrichment programs.




Transportation:
                 A late bus will be available Monday through Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Centrally located bus stops will be established by the Transportation
Department to serve the students participating in HSP2.

              Snacks will be served after the Math, English/Language Arts, and Homework/Tutoring Assistance programs.

                       If your child is required to participate, in danger of failing, or needs help, please contact the CMS guidance office at 283-2808 or
                       Julie Shadden, program coordinator, at 220-2952. Students attending HSP2 will be issued a special pass that will allow them to be in classrooms before and after school.





HSP² Behavior Procedures
I. Behavior
A. The first time a student is a behavioral problem in class, steps one, two, and three will be followed:
1. 1st infraction- Name on board

                       2. 2nd infraction- Place student in time out (i.e hallway or isolated place in the classroom) for a short period of time. The instruction
time missed should not exceed five minutes.

3. 3rd infraction- Three strikes and your out. Call Dr. Perrone, Mr. Ward, or Julie Shadden to escort the student out of class.
a. The student loses their daily credit.
b. Dr. Perrone and offending student will contact parent.
c. Dr. Perrone will assign one day of after school detention (on a Friday so learning time is not lost).

                       B. The second time a student is a behavioral problem in class, repeat steps one, two, and three. The student will lose the credit for that
day and be assigned Friday/Saturday school.
                         C. The third time a student is a behavioral problem in class, repeat steps one, two, and three. The student will lose the credit for that
                       day and be assigned Friday/Saturday school. The student will also be removed from the HSP2 program for the period of one week (4 days).
                       D. The fourth time a student is a behavioral problem in class, contact Dr. Perrone or Mr. Ward. The student and parent will be informed that                          they are disqualified and no longer allowed to attend class. The student will not receive any credit for the first session. They will,
however, be allowed to re-enroll in the second session.

II. Attendance

                     Once a student has missed 15 days or one-fourth of the session, they will be disqualified from the program. Dr. Perrone, Mr. Ward, or
Julie Shadden will contact a parent after the fifth and tenth absence. The student may re-enroll in the second session.

III. Summer School
                     A student must successfully complete one session to be eligible to attend summer school. Should a student be disqualified from the
                        first session, Dr. Perrone may deem it necessary to place those students on behavioral or attendance contract prior to enrolling in the
second session.
