8th grade Health is taught by Mrs. Schuette. In 8th grade Health, we get a clearer, more detailed view of the dangers of illegal(and illegally used) drugs. Students prepare and present public service announcements. Following the drug unit, is the Family Life unit. This unit consists of reviewing the reproductive anatomy and the real consequences of teen calls, budgeting, and journaling. The dangers of sexually transmitted diseases are also covered. Guest speakers share important medical information during the Family Life segment. The semester closes with a unit on culture, prejudice and kindness. Students come face to face with the stereotypes they have grown up with or experienced at school. Through discussion, films, guest speakers and experiencial activities, students come to realize that hatred and cruelty hurt us all. The unit ends with a culture pot-luck lunch, where we not only acknowledge our different family histories, but share and celebrate them in an accepting way.
